Some baby tropheus at different stages. Today was a busy spawning day, feel I’ve for once nailed the timing for new water food and the weather.

Seeing this makes me sad as most of them spontaneously died recently. Have a few babies hopefully along with a couple of adult survivors. We should start a co post which is what died in your tank this week

I've never had a major fish death with out it being because of me doing some thing stupid. Shock in winter with water change being too cold, forgotten chemicals, nitrogen spike.
Usually my erretmodus are my litmus test, if they get sick something is out of wacK and they are happy as and look like one may be holding.
In the last fortnight I have had 30 Tropheus die. Not from bloat or from dropsy, no distension one the abdomen or the anus. To be honest they are fancy gold fish, I just never told my wife the Caramba cost ~200/ fish. So left with the unenviable position losing the rest of my colony 12 carambras (plus 3 babies) in the following days. Usually when Ive had fish death they all die at once, not a couple a day for a week in spite of water changes.
On Mattia's recommendation I called Dr Richmond Loh and he came out on the same day, assessed the set up, the water, took swabs off the healthy fish and their poop, autopsied the dead fish and discovered that they didnt have enough body fat and possibly are underfed.
Super nice fellow and if the advice stops one ore of my tropheus dying his call out has paid for itself.

I talk with friends and colleagues reasonably often about where my fish are from and rarely is there interest. This week at golf it is the first time a friend has used the word malawi It may of been did you see the Malawi netball team killed it in the commonwealth games but it was a reference none the less.
I may be tending more towards Tangs but chilotilapia rhoadesii remans my favorite african regardless of how cool my tangs behave.

I don't think moving it would be a particularly nice job. They should be paying someone to clear the space, awesome tank

Ye Malawi’s definitely win the colour contest between the 2 , however the diversity in body shapes and behaviours in tangs what sold me onto them
We have to chat about the best mix for a Tang only display

Second definitely isn't a Chilotilapia Rhoadesii, they are taller in the head than the X-ray specimen. Chilotilapia Rhoadesii is also my favorite cichlid so I'd cry if it was a Chilotilapia Rhoadesii.
