I think everyone in my field of contact knows that I love motorbikes. There was plenty of talk too in Slink's thread when he was asking for a Motorcycle instructor.

I've had my baby for a few months already but hadn't posted her up on PCS..

This be her.

and a head on type shot so you can admire how much it looks like WALL E

So I guess, let the bikes begin.

my "bike" is a Mongoose Novara  :D  I'm not allowed to have a motorbike as I have no fear when it comes to speed and playing silly buggers on the road

Saj... Nice, I love naked bikes.

I sold my last bike earlier this year CBR1000 (In my opinion the easiest bike to ride fast... Not a fan of the looks though, way too plasticy) I sold it because when I get on abike I am a complete retard... cannot control myself... Funny though, when Im in a car im an absolute nanna.  I got my first bike when I was 6 and have been riding pretty much ever since.

No major injuries just a few titanium plates in my face, head, hands and wrist.

I have owned:

PW50

CR80

ZZR250 - Written Off by a taxi and a roundabout.

XR400

Z750

ZX7-R - Written Off by a culvert and some smallish trees.

CBR1000

Next though I have my heart set on a pre 1945 Harley Davidson... I'm not a Harley guy at all but I love the old ones... Theres just something about them! A bit slower than im used to but they sure are pretty.

@MalawiMan85: Mind me asking what injuries you sustained from totalling two bikes?

You're immortal by the sounds of things.

they do say something like 80% of motorcycle riders will have a serious (sometimes fatal) accident in their life time....

yeah i'd be tempted to call it quits too :)

Well when I hit the culvert I busted my wrists and hands, right one was way worse than the left for some reason. I still remember every microsecond of that crash... Kinda happens in slow motion and you never forget it!

With the roundabout I pretty much ate my helmet on the first impact, fractured my eye socket and zygomatic arch (Cheek bone) then smacked the back of my head on something on the second bounce (mabe the curb).

Both accidents were entirely my fault!

Hey guys some advice would be good looking at getting my LAMS bike. Looking at a couple options...
1. Hyosung GT650R $6990 (2013)
2. Honda CBR500R $7490 (2013)
3. Honda CBR250R $5490 (2013) - repsol special edition love it :)

As I can't be bothered selling the bike in a couple years time once I get open class licence. What would be better to do once i loose interest and want more power, either mod the 250cc for more power or derestrict the 650cc or 500cc ?

Also what are your opinions on the bikes them self ? My mate rides a 88 model CBR and swears by them but doesn't like the new ones. He also reckons 250 Ninjas sound like crap and ain't that good & the Hyosungs are slow. I know opinions vary but would be good to hear more then one :)

The older cbr 250 were very fast , fastest 4 stroke for the cc I think.

Current models are good to learn on.....

New Ninja's (250 ) , look good but are boring ( only took one for a run around the block. )

Get a bike that's reliable and spend the time riding rather than just going fast.

I have heard the Honda VTR is an amazing bike so maybe look along those lines ( naked style but looks good )

Stay safe and upright

Graeme

Not saying I want the quickest bike just the best option for down the track. Don't want to buy something and get bored with it and be stuck with it for years as I don't plan on upgrading for a while an when I do it wont be a sports bike so i would like to keep my original bike aswell.

Don't worry some ppl are nuts on bikes afew of my mates are mental not me though, i like 4 wheels under me if I'm gonna do something stupid lol

Bickley, go the baby blade a mate of mine has one and they are bomb proof. Impossible to drop them... still crashable but very hard to drop them because they are so easy to ride and steady under acceleration and under brakes. Is also forgiving if you have to change your line half way through turns.... doesnt twitch or feel like it will highside you. Im 95kg's and it was pretty zippy 0-100... will max out at 130km/h 150 if you wring its neck on level road with a tail wind.
250s hold their value if you dont stack em. Sell ir for 800 less than you paid for it in 12 months to two years then buy whatever you want.

Personally I'd go the Honda CB500r.

The baby blades are nice, but this is the current model CB250R, not the fun CBR250RR rocket that is the baby blade. Considering Honda are upgrading the 250 to a 300cc I think that will affect resale. I think if you're looking for more fun for a longer time on the 500.

Gotta love LAMS

Or get a DRZ40SM :P

CB handles like a kombi van compared to cbr.
Remove the baffles from your can get some more air into the airbox and you will get a few more ponies out of it.
Saj, motard is great fun... Did it with the XR... You are possibly right about resale but short term i dont think it will be a big deal... once the 300s hit the market second hand the 250 will devalue a bit more But only if the 300 turns out to be as reliable as the 250... Lots of manufacturers have added capacity to bikes only to realise it creates more problems. Kawasaki worked out that the 636 wasnt the brilliant idea they thought it was gonna be. Had to produce a stock 600 anyway.
Should have just redeveloped the old 600 engine back in 2000-2001.

Except that Kwaka brought back the 636 this year. I think it had more to do with homologation to race in supersport, superstock in the 600cc field and when when we're talking about club level. Obviously their bike wasn't suitable due to being over the allowed capacity,

I can't comment because I haven't ridden any of the new LAMS bikes, but I'd be looking at the DRZ or CB500r if I had to do my RE's all over again.

After a bit more research I've discovered once you remove the restricters ect off the larger LAM bikes they are no longer road legal due to them being licensed as a LAM approved bike on the registration. Would be a expensive and time consuming process to re register the bike as a totally different bike. So with that said I'm thinking I might just have to get a cheap 250cc bike for a year sell buy bigger bike until I can afford my dream bike :). So now after I skim on gumtree I'm topping up between a 98 ninja or a 89 cbr250rr... Let the debate begin lol

You're reasoning is right on the 636... initially 636 was developed because kawasaki wouldnt spend the money to get better performance out of the 600 to match gsxr, r6, cbr, etc. They were dark days for the green machine. They have managed to pull it back together in recent times.
600 had to be brought back for racing. My point is they scrapped 636 once and they will do it again. Most adventures away from traditional capacities by manufacturers end up as limited successes. The cbr 300 prob wont be any different but then again it could be a game changer.
Bickley,
My brother in law and another mate of mine had 98 zx6's and they were pretty good bikes. I had a 96 zx7 which was very reliable but handled like my mrs'Kia Grand Carnival. Ive never ridden the zx2 you dont typically see many of them about. Most quaka learner bikes were the gpx or zzr having owned a zzr and frequently ridden the gpx i can say they are both below par... Older technology.
The late 80s blades are destined to be true classics they hold value are high performing and actually look good.

Because of Kawasaki's mid 90s major revamp i reckon Overall the zx would be a more complete bike but the cbr has a bit more elegance about it.
