Hey guys. A while back before the forum was upgraded there was talk about a live chat section on the forum.

I just wanted to know if this was still going to happen and what peoples thoughts about it were.

Me personally i think it would be great idea. It would make discussions alot more interactive, and it would be a quicker and simpler way to get to know people.

So who else thinks it would be good.

Cheers
Kyle

Yes good idea, but very hard to moderate, Ive seen other forums get in a bit of trouble with members abusing each other..

Chat rooms can be semi-moderated to "boot/kick" users out if indecent words are used etc.. "Mute" functions can also be optional so people can "block out" anyone they DO NOT wish to hear/communicate with.. smile.gif

Yea i knew there would be a issue with it being moderated.

Kev is on a good idea with the mute situation though.

Well anyone who is abusive can be banned and a block function (/ignore ) can be easily implemented into the chat

But does PCS have the bandwidth to handle chatterboxes? biggrin.gif

I've added a Poll to this thread Kyle.

If there's enough interest I'll look into the forum's capabilities for live chat and what moderation / blocking features etc there are. Will also have to run it past the rest of the committee if it was to go ahead.

Err not really, never did fansubbed Gundam... 50-52 episodes is too much of a commitment for my translators, besides Bandai very often tells fansubbers not to fansub them and we didnt want to get into any legal wrangling.

But having said that, I like Gundam, not all the series.

Here's a suggestion for moderating the chatroom:

How about a rule where you have to be a PCS member (financial or non-financial) for at least 3 months before you can join the chatroom? This is to help deter "hit-and-run" chatters who create a screen nick just to cause trouble?

Just a suggestion... wink.gif

A good suggestion Kev. Just depends whether the software will support it.

From what I determined so far IP.Board used to support live chat in previous versions but it got stripped out. So an alternate would be a 3rd party java-based plugin. But this would require quite a bit of testing and some dollars I'm guessin.

Okie Dokie!

If you want, I can help investigate suitable chatroom software? It doesn't have to be plugins, does it? Why not just a standalone chatroom with a different url? biggrin.gif

Yep can be a completely seperate solution. If anything there's nothing stopping you setting up one up yourself that way u'll see how much it gets utilised.

You'll have to call it something like Kev's chatroom of course as it can't be affiliated with the PCS if we aint moderating it tongue.gif
