#364341 Wtb Huge Amoubts Of Java Fern. All Types

Posted by smirq on 09 December 2017 - 04:53 PM in Classifieds

Recommened this gumtree user - https://www.gumtree....forn/1168328040

Picked up some plants from her months ago, worth the drive.

If you're looking for something more local, I have some narrow leaf and windelov. Will PM some photos and prices, though most of it is attached to wood.

Site is in USD. Are these available in Oz? I'd like to avoid international freight.

#364233 Pcs November 2017 Photocomp

I can recommend https://imgur.com/as a decent image host. Just make sure not to pulish to the public if don't intend to, and don't get stuck looking at funny pictures all day long.

#364231 How I See Next Couple Of Steps In Space Colonization

Posted by smirq on 27 November 2017 - 06:59 PM in Off The Wall

Mine an astoroid for gold then finance the rest of the mission. Where would you keep fish in space?
Elron Musk has rockets landing upright ready to refuel & relaunch so anything is possible.

Gold would be worthless unless they drip fed it into the market (like diamonds).

You'd need to find whatever is needed for the next generation of propulsion - https://www.space.co...eroid-mars.html

Whatever minerals needed to make space travel more efficient will take the place of oil as the primary commodity / currency. Leaving or entering orbit is always expensive so whoever can make it cheap enough for convoys of raw material and workers/robots to move around will cash in big time. More likely the refining and manufacturing will also be done in orbit to reduce the commute.

Recent scifi series played with the concept - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3230854/

Decent ratings (8.3)

#364222 Wts> Xanthic Jaguar Cichlid Female $25

Posted by smirq on 27 November 2017 - 11:58 AM in Classifieds

>Subwassertang (fair bit)

>hornwort (fair bit)

>duckweed

I can probably help you out with these, though it depends on how much you mean by "fair bit". I"ll send some photos tonight.

I've got a "but-load" of duckweed, I have to reduce the surface of my 4ft planted tank once a week or else there's minimal surface ripple for gas exchange. Generally I'll put it in another tank with a group of Banded Leporinus who do a good job of eating it faster than it grows.

My leporinus' love my hygrophila costata plants, which i propagate in a separate tank for them. They will eat a bit of pumpkin or zucchini when I'm not looking, but the only thing they rush for are algae wafers (gobstopper style) and spirulina flakes.

#363283 Led Repairs?

Posted by smirq on 10 September 2017 - 07:11 PM in Technical & Equipment

Yeah, it definitely brightned up the aquarium. I was previously relying on an 120cm ISTA LED  (which I bought at the same time, about 4 years ago) as the main light source, and though it's held up well for years and gives ample light to scare away catfish, the diffference in light intensity compared with the repaired Dalua SS Freshwater is significant. I also noticed some false pearling after today's water change, which didn't happen when I was just running the ISTA.

I'd recommend the Duala if you want your plants to grow a bit more, and the moonlight mode is nice for getting a peek of any catfish you rarely see during the daylight. Though my email to Dalua went unanswered, it's still a good unit, and if you buy it  from somewhere like Aquotix, they'll look after you B)

#363270 Led Repairs?

Big shout out and a thousand thanks to the Aquotix team. Took my light in yesterday, and today it's back and bright over my aquarium. Very happy with the speedy and professional service :D

#363250 Led Repairs?

Posted by smirq on 08 September 2017 - 08:35 AM in Technical & Equipment

I agree, I did mention it last time I was in there and was told they could line up a replacement cable for me. Still need to replace the suspected faulty LED though, and I assume the Dalua service centre is over east. I did ask Dalua if they had someone in WA, but... no response to my email.

I might just have a poke around Altronics this weekend.

#363243 Led Repairs?

Posted by smirq on 07 September 2017 - 05:35 PM in Technical & Equipment

I purchased a Dalua SS Freshwater 120cm a while ago from Aquotix, but it's long out of warranty. It's diodes have stopped emmiting light, either due to moisture or possibily a faulty LED.

I tested the cables with a multimeter, and so far I’ve confirmed the while light power supply (4 pin) is outputting the correct voltage, but the moonlight power supply (3 pin) is only outputting millivolts.

The sticker on the moonlight power supply lacks info regarding volts/amps/watts etc. so I'm a bit at a loss in finding a suitable replacement.

The sticker on the white light power supply is 55V DC / 1.5A

There are 32 LEDS in total, of which 6 are UV.  The white light cable output 55v, which implies 26 x 2.1v LEDs wired in series. Being in series, a faulty LED breaking the circuit is likely the issue. Though I'm capable of soldering in a fresh one, I'm content to outsource to a sparky. Anyone got someone to recommend? I also want to get the shed wired up eventually, but that's for another thread.

I'm not sure it's safe to assume the UV LEDs have the same voltage drop though, so replacing the UV cable is tricky. Anyone got one of these units and able to check with a multimeter?

I sent an email to sales@daluaaustralia.com.au a week ago and have had no reply. A little disappointed in thier failure in customer service.
