This is my first setup, So far im still in the cycling process, ammonia has gone and i still have nitrites, waiting for them to convert to nitrates. I am cycling my tank with Ammonium Chloride.

Equipment:

Aqua One Windsor 88 Corner Aquarium with 12 mm Glass 48" x 36" x 28"
20kgs Red Sea Reef Base
Eheim Pro 3 electronic external cannister filter
Hydor 300w inline external heater
Aqua Medic turboflotor 750 Protein Skimmer
3ft 2x30w Reflector
2ft T5 3x18w Reflector (the light will be upgrading soon)
Hydor Koralia no.1
Approx 80kg Base Rock (limestone)
Aqua Medic Digital Specific Gravity Meter
Marina Digital Thermometer with Temp Rise/Drop alarm

I Currently have an aqua one AR380 38 litre aquarium which is my quarantine tank for the above setup. currently it houses a pair of ocellaris Clowns in it.

I also have a 250 litre container constantly mixing synthetic saltwater at 1.023 sg and at 25 degrees celcius with a return pump to go straight to the tank.

thanks guys for the comments, some live rock will be added very shortly, hopfully i'll get about 20kgs all up and then let it spread the rest of the way.

yeah im expecting some nitrate issues but its something i have to deal with, because of the cabinet design a sump was just not feesable and the aqua medic overflow box i wanted (for if i got a sump cause the tank isnt drilled) was $600 so a couple of hundred more and i got a cannister.

I'm all out of money now so hopefully no equipment purchases for a couple of months, just a few more books i want.

A very small amount of live rock and a cannister filter. The makings for a disaster when talking marine. Your better off spending the cannister money on more live rock.

I have used the Aquamedics in the past. Hated both of them. I found they clogged very easy, which is something a good skimmer shouldn't do. I also had them on a tank with another no name skimmer. I was emptying the collection cup on the no brander every few days. The aquamedic would be lucky to need emptying every couple weeks! The needle wheel also broke on my aquamedic, needless to say it was thrown out last rubbish collection.

What are you planning on keeping?

Yeah i was looking into the berlin system, but there was something about it that didnt appeal to me unfortunately.
I am aware that cannisters are nitrate traps but when the tank was being setup initially it was intended for fish only, and as a fish keeper your self surley you know how much things never go to plan haha.
Plans are possibly a school of chromis, blue tang (once tank is extremelly mature) occelaris clowns, variety of invertabrates, nothing fancy at the moment, im still a beginner.

I have MUCH more research to do before even putting a fish in there, i want to encounter as little livestock issues as possible and to only house what my system allows.

Thats a very eye catching, groovy, modern and elegant tank you have there Krissy well done. Its a journey ahead now, hope to see more pics of it

Heres an update on the tank, its taken a while but it's getting there slowly. I'm not going to add much more until after christmas.

Would have looked 100% nicer with all live rock, would have made for a far better balance as well.

Thanks a lot, yeah i totally agree, all live rock would have been much more visually appealing and biologically balanced but it is slowly taking shape. Coralline Algae is starting to grow on the massive rock in the centre and the tunnel on the bottom right hand side. Of the little bit of live rock that i do have i got some awesome hitchhickers, heaps of feather dusters, encrusting spones, sinularia and a little toadstool.
