A big robust cichlid that can be fairly territorial.
One of the best looking when fully grown, their body pattern resembles that of a Jaguar hence the name.
They are best kept in a large aquarium with other large growing cichlids, they are fairly easy to breed and when they do, get the other fish out of the tank as they will try to destroy them icon_evil.gif
I have bred them a couple of times and used a tank with a divider for the female to pass through but not big enough for the male as they can be very hard on the girls.
They will grow to around 35 - 40cm as they age their lips get big and their back arches a little, the first one in the video below is around 6yrs and she has seen a few fights in her time as you can see by her top lip.
A mate had one live for 14 yrs and eventually got killed by a spine through the side from a large pleco that it use to annoy non stop.
Jag's are a very smart cichlid and will interact with their owner, one of the "character" cichlids..
One fish worth keeping.
