Heating Costs

31 January 2011 - 07:31 PM

Hi has anyone done a comparison of heating costs for a given size fish shed? eg: gas, electric, solar, reverse cycle air cond, etc?
Electricity costs are now very high but I have heard that running one of the new invertor reverse cycle split aircons is a viable way to go.
Of course it all depends on the size of the fish shed and the quality of the insulation as well as other factors.
What fish shed heating methods are people using? In the past breeding fish for me has not been very profitable mainly due to the heating costs. Spin

What Material To Use To Make Tank Stands In A Humid Fish Shed?

27 January 2011 - 06:03 PM

What is the best material to use to make tank stands from for a fish shed that has a humid atmosphere. I am not running a reverse cycle aircond so humidity does build up.
I am thinking treat pine and painted? I have used metal tube welded and painted but they have now all rusted over the years and need to be replaced.
What are others using? The stands dont have to be fancy they are in the fish shed not the lounge room. smile.gif

Wtb: Potamogeton Pond Weed

22 January 2011 - 08:46 PM

Hi Does anyone know where this outdoor pond plant can be purchased? Its usually fully submerged but some leaves float on the surface. I had some years ago but it died off. Sometimes it can be reddish in colour or green depending on the temperature and amount of light. It is a very fast grower once established.

I have not seen it in pond shops for some time.

Name: Potamogeton or sometimes known as common pond weed

Glass Cutting And Holes

13 January 2011 - 04:31 PM

Hi, I have a need to make two small tanks for some newly hatched Firemouths. I have the glass already but I need someone to cut the glass and put a hole in the centre of each base. Can anyone do that for me or who do people recommend? Thanks spin
