Being fed that the cause is an algal bloom.

I don't buy that for one second. I also feel like we have all been groomed for this answer for some time.

They were also now saying that 500l of canola oil spilt in there which caused all this which I think is a complete load of BS, how can 500l of canola do that to such a huge area!! I've got a feeling that it's something to do with the army naval base doing some testing or whatever they do which has cause something... We'lol see what the outcome is and who is to pay the price

that way this has been handled and no straight answer leads me to suspect that the state Govt or a department of has been the cause  and they are trying to cover it up

Just my opinion and i'm not conspiracy theorist

i understand how an algae bloom can rob the river of oxygen as its in such a confined area and doesnt get surface agitation by wind etc... but how does such a large expanse of water suffer the same problem?  it seems obvious the fish have died because they couldnt breathe... but the sound has so much activity going on surely the water is being agitated more than enough for it to contain oxygen for the fish to breathe..... and im sure fish can detect oxygen levels are lowering and they'd swim out of there... its an animal instinct to survive... im not really buying the algae bloom explanation either - how much algae would be needed to cause this current situation? the sound would have to be full of it... i wasnt aware that algae blooms could be so aggressive in salt water....

whatever happened it appears to me the breeding snapper stock have been totally devastated and it will take decades for it to recover....

A friend of a friend of a friend,,,,,, BP. Petroleum Co.
Completely stuffed.
Mistakes happen.
Can't wait for the full motion of nuclear waiste coming into oz via ship.

Don't forget challenger Tafe breed and replenish millions of baby fingerling pinks.
I think this props the pink populations better than themselves breeding.
So it's secure this way,, but yes a big glut in recreational big pinks to catch.

I fear more for the species that don't have assistence with breed programs.

I went for a bit of a fish NOR and caught a little pinky, so hopefully there is some hope for the snapper stocks, but even though there is a lots of young ones around the place, snapper like bream take forever to grow and mature, so I think they should put even more restrictions of snapper fishing just until the stocks come back up and are more stable.

This is a very close subject to me as I own a small beach house directly on Cockburn sound.. I've just been told that I now have to demolish it by March of next year.. I was prepared for this as its been an ongoing issue.. The government has sold a portion of point peron and surrounding land to a large multinational corporation who are going to develop a large inland marina. In the process destroying 6ha of sea grass. Cockburn sound is a well known fish nursery, take away breeding ground and you take away the fish...

It just goes to show that no matter what we do the money always wins out in the end...

Yes. This one I think the military have been doing some testing off the back of the Island.

I know about the Submarines sitting off the coast for months on training exercises.

Ocean generates the majority of the earths oxygen so agitation isnt even an issue...
A lot of hazardous/toxic industry down that way but I dont reckon they would get away with emitting/spilling dangerous levels of anything. More to the point I dont think they would try to cover it up... risk is way too high!

I was chatting to one of the navy fellas from garden island today and he was saying recently there was some spillage from the grain terminal. It's possible something from there is the cause?

I had a walk along the beach at mangles bay tonight after work and I was a little upset to think in a few short months this gorgeous piece of coast will be just another corporate money making enterprise for those with the $$$ to afford a luxury yacht..

I reckon most of us would be surprised just what really does go on,,, and the level of care from these corporates. Disgusting.
