#342883 Native Predators And Oddballs

Posted by shayne on 05 August 2015 - 06:06 PM

thats my info on target fish. I consider myself a newbie/rookie but im going to stick my neck out. For the biotype your aiming for i would have kept the barra     and learned to like salmon tails { very robust dither fish, not aggressive unless it fits in their mouth} thrown 2 or 3 young ones in,totally change the dynamics in the tank and then continued my search for whatever. Would draw the line at theft, bodily harm or murder for the N.Ater But would consider walking over hot coals or broken glass for them. Have 2 of them and 6 tandanus spread around different tanks  and the aters are much cooler.Scats will smash most plants but can be so cool, have heard they can be aggressive but i had 1 almost big enough to eat, no aggro to the younger ones i introduced and hand fed by my grandkids, as gentle as a lamb

#340699 Loving The Rain But

Posted by shayne on 21 June 2015 - 12:59 PM

Reveling in the rain but didnt expect so much of it. Have tubs, baths, old eskies over flowing and precious daphnia, mossie larvae and a couple of types of seed shrimp pouring onto the ground. What a waste of live food. Was out there dealing with it and just got smashed by hail. NICE to see some proper rain though.

#340303 10Mm Sinking Pellet

Posted by shayne on 10 June 2015 - 07:38 PM

my tandanus,n,ater and salmontails have no problem accepting floating pellets but competition can be a problem. I use a lot of ap pellets but presoak some occasionally and they sink readily,i supplement this with snails[ common brown garden ones and the white coastal type, lightly crushed so they sink] earthworms and fresh fish scraps from my own table.Have tandanus in both warm water and others on the patio [temp right now 15 degrees but goes lower] eating with great enthusiasm

An article in The Herald 6/615 claims 1000,s of catfish removed from Lake Marmion and 4/6/15 fisheries minister announces it has been stocked with western pygmy perch and western minnow. Wow! a step in the right direction. Herald can be viewed on line at  www.fremantleherald.com

WOW!! What a great read, Humbug and a very exciting project. Love that Bakehouse, nice bit of history and a fabulous feature to have in your backyard, am trying hard not to be envious. Bummer about the arthritis mate, im a sufferer to. A life time of pain and fatigue that few can understand. Hope that you have it under some sort of control. Methotrexate and prednisilone have been my new best friends for about 12 years now. Good luck with your project! :welldone:  :goodjob:
