Hi mate,
i think someone is pulling your leg.You could get glass shrimp from the river but not amanos. If you do get some amanos let me know!!!!Because customs wont let them into australia

Same family, different species.
Glass shrimp will eat detrius, but are not big on algae.
Any Caradina sp. shrimp will be decent for algae control, there are some that are native to Australia but unfortunately you'll be out of luck trying to find any around the southwest region.

I find the riffles do a good job. Have fans for hands so not gonna hurt plants. They do eat some algae but prefer water born stuff which is kool with me. Also makes them perfect for small fry tanks as you can feed powders and have the shrimp help to clean up.
Whats the G.O. with shipping a bag of crustys over to WA? Pretty sure they are starting to breed in my pond as I caught them 'all' months ago and today I caught 10 more without trying. They hide well but yea, wish I knew exactly what they need to spawn as stuffed if I can get it happening in a fish tank!!!

That sounds interesting, what exactly is a "riffle" though.

From what I have been told there are VERY strict rules regarding the import of any type of shrimp into WA - this is why you only ever find glass/ghost shrimp here.

True...but there are a few types allowed in. I have seen the freshwater prawns come in from the east in last few years (sorry i don't remember their name).

I would not be surprised if there were riffle shrimp in WA.
I mean once you know how to look you are always surprised with how well some species range.
Defenitely the east coast and I have seen them up north. OK chance they range down the west coast too maybe........
As I said you just have to know where to look.
Would be handy to find out if they can never be shipped!
