I don't think there are any Legalities at all to fishing in lakes around perth as long as it's not on private property.

Depends on the council rules, fisheries don't give a shit if you're catching ferals so long as you have a freshwater fishing license they shouldn't do anything. It's the councils that will fine you.

We need to do some more stealth fishing bro :)
Best thing to do for the legality reasons is call your local council where the lake is located, ask them if they stock the pond/lakes with fish then if they don't, go hard!! There's one lake up this way that has specific rules regarding the native turtles but apart from that I've never come across a local lake/pond that was in any estate that is stocked by any council :)

Another irresponsible article compliments of the bloody idiots at WAToday. Pretty soon the ferals will be bloody everywhere now that the public knows they are "impossible to get rid of" and fun to fish for. Geez I hate the media.

I dunno ice the situation is already bad maybe a spotlight on the matter might actually help educate the retardos out there that dump fish.
Interesting statement from Jason's article, that most non native fish are from aquariums. Maybe in terms of species but definitely not in terms of weight of numbers or environmental impact... for that we can still thank the government... Im trying to think of the last time I saw trout, redfin, carp or gambusia in an aquarium (other than as a feeder).

^ agreed. I know I've mentioned this before, but I remember seeing a lake full of convicts in Thornlie when I was a young whipper snapper. I thought it was cool, but that's because I didn't know better. If I saw it now, I would want to catch them all and remove from the lake, or notify the authorities. Hopefully articles like this will put the government bodies under pressure to try and remove introduced fish species, and to encourage native species. This should even include "mad-made" lakes. Why muck around with goldfish? Native fish are a lot cooler.

Might go on the weekend if you're keen bud.

My biggest gripe with that article is giving the issue publicity, sure it may shed some light on the issue (of which fisheries are WELL aware) but it'll also highlight the fact that this is being done and there's plenty of idiots out there who I'm sure would think "wow it'd be awesome to be able to fish at my local park, I'm gonna put some koi and cod in there".

They live among us unfortunately and the less educated are usually the culprits.

Yeah my neighbour is a typical example bro, he had a huge salmon tail catfish that outgrew his tank, instead of popping next door to the fish nerds house he took it to the local lake.... As far as I know it's still there... And the one place we aren't actually allowed to fish, the pinnaroo park cemetery....
