Hello all,

Is bloat solely bought on by too much food, I haven't changed any feeding habits and two of my
5cm Bristlenose have got bloat and died.

I feed them zucchini every second day and some catfish pellets every two days.

whats your water quality like and do you leave the uneaten food in the tank?  i just feed mine algae discs and have no issues

I just use NLS in all my tanks these days, the catties pick em off the bottom no worries, I only stick some zucchini in on a weekly basis and remove what's left the next day

from my experience bloat is directly related to poor water quality and parameters...... and very little to do with their diet.... they are omnivors and will eat anything....

 

bad bacteria has prob evolved in your filter due to insufficient maintenance and their stomach bowel has inflamed to a bacterial infection and blocked their pooper hole and the fish bloats... with bloat it then puts pressure on other internal organs , stressing fish out making its immune system compromised and then being susceptable to pathogens and inevitably death.... 

 

i have fed b/n blood worms for a wewek straight with no ill effects with good water quality

Well that's sounds fairly right, but my four adult peppermints are fine, however along with the death of 6 or so baby
bristlenose I have also lost my 6 electric yellows.

They are in a two foot tank and it has an Eheim 2213 and I do a water change every Sunday, also have a foam filter in
the tank.

I did however change my biological media over to Seachem Matrix, I did was the matrix first and used my two filter foamsthat were washed in tank water.

I have since panicked and removed the Seachem Matrix and gone back to the Eheim Matrix.

I set a hospital tank up and removed my two surviving electric yellows, however they are swimming vertically near the
top of the surface and seem to be having some sort of fits, however they have been alive now for two days longer than
the rest.

I checked my PH and it was fine, so was the ammonia and nitrates.

You crashed the tank and it's now recycling. You should have left the old media in until the new was established. You did to much at once (replaced media, cleaned filter, water change).

as above sandy hit nail on the head..... b/n and electric yellows are a reasonably hardy fish so you def have to do something wrong/bad to kill em....

This just gets worse by the day, looking at a couple of the bristlenose and they are now covered in white spot, used the blue planet white spot treatment and the prescribed amount, 25ml for 200 litres, turned off the lights and heat up to 29 degrees.

 

Just had a look at one of the effected bristlenose who hides in some wood and I could see some of the white spot had fallen off and onto the wood.

 

How long before I do another treatment?

 

Do I dose the same amount again?

 

How long before treatments?

 

Once treatment has finished do I need to completely empty and clean the tank, rocks and wood?
