I purchased a uPVC gate valve from Bunnings some years ago. It was a slide (push/pull as distinct from a screw adjusting). I have not seen these lately, but then I have not been looking for them, so they may still be available.

I have bought 12v solenoids from Melbourne. They may have what your after. Ill check it out for you.
I buy many an item from OS sellers if I'm not in a rush. Much more choice that way.
I personally haven't seen a BSP PVC gate available in Australia that isn't in PE but I haven't had the need for one either so I havnt really looked.
All though balls are meant to be used either all on or all off its still ok to use them as a control meassure. I'd give them a try before buying a gate from OS. It should work with the ball.
It's a gravity feed system isn't it? The pressure won't be high enough to cause cavitation by a partially closed valve.
Ball valves are the most reliable valve on the market. And they're cheap.
Buy a valve larger than your drain size diameter. For instance, if your siphoning with a 25mm pipe, buy a 40mm ball valve then reduce it back down to a 25mm pipe. This will reduce the velocity.
If your concerned about retro fitting, glue or screw a union into each end of the valve but in reciprocal. That way if you still want to use the gate you need only replace one union.
My money is on it performing perfectly with a ball valve.

why restrict flow? just puts more backpressure on your pump, maybe you need a smaller pump?

Cheers for the help guys.
Bowdy found a good link for me in aus so i will get it from there.
Matt, I am runing a silent overflow so need to fine tune the full siphon drain so as to keep the second drain only taking a very small amount of water.
