Hey all, I am thinking of setting up a 70x50x45 reef with LPS and SPS with a 6045x40 sump.

Fish list:

1x flame hawkfish
1x bicolour blenny
2x Ocellaris clowns
1x coral beauty angel
1x black axil chromis

I was thinking of using a Vortech MP10 for flow and a Reef Octopus DC 150 skimmer that is tested up to 500 litres. Would those be good choices?

Cheers

Nice plan, especially having a sump.

Rule of thumb is to get the best skimmer you can afford and also one that is rated for at least double the tank vol. As for circ pumps, you want them rated to about 15 - 20 times the tank vol. Looks like you are on the right track, patience and research are key with marine...

Thanks for the replies....

I have decided to get a 60x45x45 tank for the display as I need lighting to fit to the tank size.

Do the tunze wavemakers pulse and how much would a similar one to an MP10 cost?

The sump will be a 55x40x40.

Any recommendations on lighting that would be fine to keep SPS under and not extremely pricey.

Cheers

I love vortechs, the sound aint that bad, and I am yet to see a tunze works as effectively as a vortech. id go an mp20 on that tank, whoever I have always had sps systems, so water flow was a massive thing for me.

skimmer wise, id go for one rated twice the volume at most, as you can overskim so to speak.

reef octopus is a quality brand and work effectively I have read from reviews etc - I personally have only used tunze skimmers in the past.

what lighting are you going? LED, T5 or halides?

I don't mind what kind of lights really...

What lights would be the best for my tank (preferably under $600)
