its rather hillarious to me when people quote this.... obviously very limited experience....
wild caught fish rarely exceed 8cm... captive bred fish have been known to reach 11-12cm.... i have seen an 11cm male and as hairy as a billy goat... his approx age has been calculated at close to 20 years old... has bred several times although he has never raised fry... in a colony of 10 fish hes the biggest male... but other males are in the 9-10cm size... females 8-9cm also....
we had them out to measure for a potential sale....
speaking to several people on various zebra plec forums.... other people have also had large males in the 10-11cm size range... although not that common... one guy in the US has a 10cm female who lays on average 25 eggs a spawn... and spawns 3-4 times a year....
and theres a lot of zebs in the 10+ years old too...
so if you mangae to get some good ones - look after them you'll have them for a long time...
a lot of average quality zebs around too... if your after some good solid lines and an established quality blood line i can put you onto someone over east.... you quite often get what you pay for... and other times you'll just get ripped off with inferior fish...
same as any fish you get nice ones with good markings and ones with faded lines etc.....
if your gonna pay hard earned coin for these fish you may as well get the best ones available...

When we talk fish size it is an average, that is the unusual.
People have 5 toes on each foot? on average yes, but l have had a few patients with as many as 7, some with 6 and of course the world record is 9, so how many toes do people have?
We dont run round saying 6 or 7 do we, we talk averages as we do when talking fish size.

In short, Certified Pedorthist, my clinic mainly deal's with Diabetic's, Diabetic amputees, children with Cerebral Palsy and other gait anomalies, including accident survivors TAC, Worksafe, DVA(Military returned service personal) and a few injured AFL players.
We try and replace/improve in what has been lost in function due to injury or disease that effects their gait.

26 years is fine but how long have you kept and bred zebs for ???
they are more more demanding than your average b/n or cichlid......
zebs have been here in WA before they were even described as a species in the early 90's....
an older guy i know got 6 of them before anybody knew anything about them.... for a price that you couldnt even buy a juvi for now....
incidently he never bred them over the 6 years he had them.. even killed 2 of them trying to unlock the key to spawning them... before they were sold...
nowadays its a lot easier but not everything you need to know is on the net.... you still cant beat hands on experience..

Google Boots n all you will see l have a few go through my hands over quite some time also.
Mostly the young sell by word of mouth though.
But back to topic, the average size of an adult zeb is 8cm, do you agree???????
