Hey Guys,

I've been reading the forum for a while trying to gather as much info as possible to start my first Malawi tank. I finally decided to take the plunge and thought I should set up journal so I could get some help as it progresses. Bit late of the mark in setting up this journal but here is where I'm at.

Tank is up and running:

Filled

Equipment Added

Equipment on Tank:
- Eheim 2217 Cannister Filter
- Jager 150 Watt Heater
- Heato 48" Single T5
- Schego Air Pump (with two air stones)

The tank is FINALLY cycled smile.gif :

3 Goldfish doing the job

Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0 and Nitrates low

Gonna get the goldies out this weekend and dive into cichlid territory. I am a bit confused though because originally I was gonna have a strictly Malawi tank but while waiting for the tank to cycle I have grown fond of some Tangs, specifically Tropheus wacko.gif . I was wondering what are some good starting Malawi's and will I be able to get some Tropheus in with them easily?

Cheers for reading and sorry for the dodgy pics (phone cam). Let me know what you think!

Simon

Nice looking tank, as for easy starters, peacocks are pretty easy.

I wouldn'r suggest RR's as a starter T...tank bred dubs are tough as nails and a lot more affordable...Simon message choombies...I saw some very nice duboisi juvies at his place last week...great quality and price too smile.gif

I got:

- 1 x Sciaenochromis fryeri
- 1 x Aulonocara Rubescens
- 1 x Tropheus Bemba
- 1 x Aulonocara baenschi
- 1 x Aulonocara Dragonblood

They're all pretty awesome but the bemba is my fav. I will have to speak to choombies next time I'm up for a tropheus. Any other types that a could add?

Sucks the rainbow reds dont go well, they look great.

Cant wait for them all to fully colour up!

Had to re-arrange all the rock work because the electric blue's territory took up half the tank!

Everyone seems much happier now. Swimming the length of the tank and not so much chasey going on.

Few new additions too.

Hongi has wicked colour

Cheers guys.

Got algae growing now too. They're loving it!

Just the display tank for now Matty but pondering the breeding path.

Gonna have some spare time on my hands in a couple of weeks so I was looking at building an acrylic tank. See how I go from there.

What's a good species to start breeding? Hongi's would be cool. They easy to breed?
