In a fighter tank a long time ago i had 1 Lesser pond snail - Galba truncatula
The snail always moved around so slowly the betta either ignored it or never even realized he wasn't alone
This snail eventually started reproducing with his/herself and by the time the fighter was removed from the tank i had about 20 full grown snails and the betta never changed his reaction to them
these snails got moved to a 2ft community tank where their numbers steadily increased until 1/4 of my substrate was snails!
A few different fighters went in an out of that tank over its life and i still never observed any interaction between fighters and well any of my fish and the snails.
Also these are the only snails i have had experience with so it could be very different with a larger species seeing as my biggest snails were maybe 2cm max
If he does start to hassle them you should pick up on it fast because i have found they are persistently intolerant of objects and fish they do not like or want to eat, attacking and hassling until things are removed by you or them
Hope that helps!

I have kept on two occasions fighters with shrimp, first time was a female and she absolutely decimated the shrimp population, second time was a male and he did a little damage chasing them around and actually catching a few but got over them pretty fast.
Just confirming what's been said i guess, it will be different with each fish so give it a go if your happy to risk it
Cheers Lachy

Aww man, really sorry to hear that, you havn't had lady luck on your side recently!
silver lining is now you have room for a cuttlefish!!
It would be interesting to set up a tank with a lot of different coloured and textured surfaces and objects to see how much he changes as he cruises around.
I watched a great doco on them and they are one of the smartest little things in the ocean, with some work you could probably train to him to do a lot cool little tricks
RIP Larry
