Well, I've been a member of these forums for a little while now and thought it was about time I introduced myself, said "Hi" and started contributing where I can (current rank = novice). So don't expect too much.
I've only been keeping Cichlids for about the last 5-6 months but find it to be a great way to spend my spare time. I have kept tropical (tetras, guppies, etc etc) community tanks in the past but IMO it doesn't compare to the size and colour of the
Malawi's and Tangs I've currently got. Yes, I know, there are bigger fish out there but one step at a time...
All my fish are currently between ~6-12 cm's (except the Tropheus) and they are all either coloured up or are at least starting to so it's really beginning to look quite nice. I am currently only running 1 display tank, a Juwel Vision 260 (4') bow front stocked with the following:
- 2 x Electric Blue II - Copadichromis azureus
- 2 x Deepwater Hap - Placidochromis electra
- 2 x Yellow Tail - Pseudotropheus spec."Acei"
- 2 x Electric Blue - Sciaenochromis fryeri
- 2 x Electric Yellow - Labidochromis caeruleus
- 3 x Red Empress - Protomelas taeniolatus (Namalenje)
- 2 x Nimbochromis venustus
- 2 x Malawi Eye Biter – Dimidiochromis compressiceps
- 2 x Mpanga - Pseudotropheus spec."Elongatus Mpanga"
- 2 x Saulosi - Pseudotropheus saulosi
- 2 x Sulphur Head Peacock - Aulonocara maylandi maylandi
- 2 x Firebird Peacock "Eureka" - Aulonocara jacobfreibergi
- 1 x Kadango Red - Copadichromis borleyi (Kadango)
- 1 x Tropheus Dubosi "Masawa"
- 3 x Princess of Burundi - Neolamprologus brichardi (Magara)
- 2 x Crimson Tide - Astatotilapia latifasciata
- 2 x Tangerine Peacock - Aulonocara sp. Tangerine
- 1 x Clown Loach - Chromobotia macracanthus
I've added a Eheim 2228 along with the internal Juwel 1000lph filter and this is keeping the water nice and fresh and to date there have been no "casualties" in the tank. All water parameters are holding steady and aggression is pretty well spread.
However, It's starting to get a little crowded in there (and I want to buy more fish ) so I've also just purchased a 6x2x2 and am in the process of creating a custom cabinet to hold it. This should hopefully be completed within the next month. If I get the time, I may document the process/plans etc and post it up in the DIY section sometime in the future so all can benefit from my experiences (we'll see how we go though)
I'd like to thank all contributors to the forum, & as you can see I'm a club member and this is mainly because of the value of the information I've found in this one place than any of the other benefits. IMO it's already paid for itself before I even purchased anything from the sponsor stores.
On that note, I'd like to give a shout to Az and the team at Midland for setting me on the right path and the much needed info over the last few months to get me started.
Anyways, Hi, & that will do for now...
Cheers,
Nathan
