Hi All,

I thought I'd introduce myself... although I've only been looking at PCS Forum for a few weeks its been of great help in helping me establish my new planted tank.

I am quite new to aquariums, and am in the early stages of stocking my newly cycled 4ft tank (photos attached of it as is this morning).

All is going quite well, although I'm already learning about the delicate art of algae control. Right now there are only 6 young Red Phantom Tetras and 2 young Royal Whiptails, but all are happy and soon to be joined by some Cardinals. Later I am looking forward to introducing some Apistos (hoping to get two different pairs... a pair of Cacs and perhaps some Borelii or Baenschi if I can some any). Still working on the best way to define territories and breeding spots so the aquascpe is still in development (along with the healthily growing plants). Eventually I hope to introduce a couple of Discus to the tank, but want to build up my skills and equipment first.

Anyway, nice to meet you all. If anybody has any comments or suggestions following my brief intro to my current tank, I'd love to hear! :)

Great looking start of the tank!

Just looks like you need a longer lengthed light, that's also bit brighter. If you want plants, you need lots of light.

Welcome to the forum!

the apistos should be fine in your tank with the tetras, but i wouldnt have any larger cichlids in as they will eventually eat all your tetras, if you do wish to go down that route tho i do have some baenishi juvies almost ready to go

Thanks all for your messages. Shep, thanks for the whiptails, they're happily munching on every bit of driftwood they can find! Also seem to love zuccini and pellets. Fussy about wafers though. :)

MrLeifBeaver, hi! The lights are partly because of the crappy camera on my phone, but they are a little short for the tank. I'm beefing them up with an extra foot-long light and see how everything goes... plants are not growing super fast, but they are growing.

Bermont, Apisto Baenschi are one of my favourites! They are an Apisto, right? and don't grow too big? I'll PM you for more info.

Jason 82, he he the season is well over for me... I'm a Richmond supporter. My partner is an avid Hawks fan though so is resisting the Purple Haze with all his might! :)
