#334786 Fighting Oscars

Posted by Limes on 09 February 2015 - 08:23 PM

Personally i wouldn't add anymore fish into it if these 2 are already fighting..a tank that size is already at limits with 2 oscars....

Cant really put anymore fish in without the bioload going overboard.

Smaller fish would get eaten, same size fish would put more strain on the filter.

Someone might be able to suggest something to break the tension between the oscars, but from my view more fish wont help.

Edit: what type of ornaments do you have in the tank? anything to hide in or at least block view from each other?

#328302 Zeus The Oscar

Posted by Limes on 29 September 2014 - 11:30 PM

Meet Zeus.

Found this guy on gumtree sitting in a 70L tank his whole life.
Not usually a fan of buying fish big, usually like to watch them grow, you know play the whole dad thing.

Anyway couldn't pass this guy up, drove all the way down to rockingham to find a little old lady had been dumped with him by her son about 2 years ago, she had no idea how big he would grow or what he was. Continued to feed him and change the water. She said a year after she got him her son said he wasn't going to come back from his holiday overseas. So she was stuck with this oscar who didn't want to stop growing in his tiny tank.
The light bulb had blown 3 months ago and he had just been in a shed, fed once a day with what I'm guessing is light from the door so she could see and then that was all.

She seemed so happy that I was taking him off her hands, she actually felt for the fish and she kept telling me how sorry she was for the fish she just had no idea what to do with him.

So this is him now, in his new tank
Oscars so well known for sulking for weeks after a tank change. This guy hasn't stopped moving since he came in, constantly doing laps and exploring everything he can.

Even had a call from the lady asking how the fish was going and if I could send pictures so she could see him.

Just thought it was a nice story to share with everyone.

(Got the tank as well...thinking a decent setup for a good looking fighter :0?)

#327762 How Rare Are Clown Knives?

Posted by Limes on 21 September 2014 - 10:44 PM

Title pretty much sums it up, how often do clown knife fish come up? For sale? Or even how often do you see them around.
Personally, I've just seen the one in vebas in the mega tank.

#321092 Uaru :0??

Posted by Limes on 11 July 2014 - 07:40 PM

?? Half of the sites I checked are saying they make perfect tank mates :/ other half didn't even mention anything about it, aside from the obv needing really clean water...

Hmm more food for thought I guess :/
Oh well that clears the choice up xD thanks

#320271 What Grinds My Gears

Posted by Limes on 04 July 2014 - 07:34 PM

You know what really grinds my gears. This %$&@
Not a very good photo, pretty sure it's black beard algae... On my plant... Ripped it out of the tank to try get a better photo, doesn't work so well...
Yet to find a way to get rid of this stuff...
Have Siamese flying foxes that apparently eat it, they don't seem to care for it at all...
Looks so ugly and is infesting my tank faster then I can scrub and rip out plants.

Another note, which section of the forum would this go, nutrition/disease? 0.o

#319561 Explain What S/f Means For This Eel??

Posted by Limes on 26 June 2014 - 09:51 PM

If I ever see one pop up I'll think about getting it... Young though so at least I can enjoy it for a year or two before I find it a new home :)

Hopefully being a new giant tank...

#286633 So I Came Home To This..

Posted by Limes on 13 June 2013 - 05:35 PM

Casually munching on a snack...

Other then it being annoying that hes eaten one of my fish, (clown loach if not obv) i have some concerns... i've read that they have spines behind their eyes, so im wondering if hes got it stuck in his mouth now, as he is still swimming around with it about 30minutes after i got home. What to do?

He does look quiet proud of his catch as well.

(oscar is 13cm and loach is 5-6cm)
