The filter is an internal otto 1200l/h

I would like either another large cichlid like a black belt or red terror.

Any suggestions for anything that isn't a cichlid or catfish?

Cheers

I would really think about it, depending on your Red Devils attitude... Last devil I had was in a 5ftx2ftx2ft by Himself and he ripped the crap out off everything l put in with him, and he was only 13-14cms!! He destroyed a Oscar which was 20cms.. But saying that yours might be tamer then mine was..

The red devil stays in her cave most of the time and occasionally flares her gills out at the jag.

Could I add anything without upgrading the filter or would I need to upgrade the filter to access the opportunity of more fish.

I think the filtration is already insufficient. Otto's are great for internal flow and picking up debris, not great for biological filtration.

Ok so I'll upgrade the filter, thanks for that suggestion

What external canister would be good for my tank?

What fish could I get if I upgraded my filter.

Oh and I also have an Aqua One 9500 Air pump with a circular air stone.

If you have had the jag for a year and its only 15cm your obviously under feeding, which is probably working in your favour with massive lack of biological filtration.

There is no way I would just be running an OTTO bro. You need to get some biological filtration stat!

You want more fish that grow large. Look into purchasing a 6x2x2 at least. They come up cheap on gumtree and here from time to time.

Packing lots of fish into a small tank can only end badly. Over feed, amo spike, wake up to all your fish dead.

Jag has doubled in size but the red devil hasn't grown much because she uses much of her energy laying eggs and fiercely protecting them.

Cheers all

The stocking ATM is pushing it for that tank. And the filtration really needs upgrading. 2216 or astro 2012
http://www.aquariumo...anister-filter/

But I wouldn't suggest putting any more fish in.

You really like to try cram fish into your tanks.

that tank does sound severely overstocked, even if you were able to put a cannister which was larger then needed id still not want anything more in a tank that size, especially since ALL the fish you listed will outgrow that tank within a year or 2 at most, i used to have 2x foot long tiger oscars in a 4' tank, bad idea...

Thanks for your advice all I might upgrade the tank to a 6x2x2 with a cannister filter.

Could I fit in any more fish in a 6x2x2 than a jag, red devil, goldspot pleco and sailfin Synodontis

Cheers

yeh definately, but honestly it would just make it more comfortable for the 4 fish, youd be able to add MAYBE 1-2 fish if you over filtered, due to their large size youd want the otto as powerhead, a sponge for biological and a very large cannister to handle all the waste
