Ok so the mantis shrimp I isolated has died and I thought that was the end of it.. but right now as I'm typing this post I CAN HEAR CLICKING NOISES FROM THE TANK, meaning poor alec must've had more than 1 mantis shrimp in his live rocks!! Actually that'd be poor me wouldn't it  help!? I don't wanna squirt hot water at the live rock cos that would kill all the tube worms and other stuff that are living in the rocks gonna try that coke bottle trap but was wondering if there's anything else I can do  now I know why ppl just give up their marine setups..

oh damn! more than one!
Hopefully it could be a pistol shrimp? Or it may be your heater clicking. Sometimes i hear clicking about 3 or 4 in a row at night but if i notice the heater it is when the light comes on and it clicks as it heats up. Nether the less i am going to try the coke bottle as well but it hasn't touched my copeopods or my amphiopods or my chromis so i don't think this is one.
Best of luck and hopefully you get this little bugger

yeh it might be a pistol
a pistol shrimp got caught in the intake of the power head when i had the tank.
pistol shrimp are still not very helpful for a reef tank, they are also known for feeding on invertabrates
but, i still wouldn't rule out a mantis

I dont think syphilis is all that interesting to watch though, lol.
Mantis shrimps can eat some things (e.g. snails or hermit crabs) and make clicking noises. If you dont mind the clicking noises you can house one in a sump (in a refugium) and watch it without worring about it picking off reef inhabitants. They are quite facinating to watch though. I'll probably pick someones free one up (after i get a sump though )
