I am in two minds about going marine.

I was thinking either use one of my unused Fluval Edge tanks and modifi it for marine.

or order a new 2x1.5x1.5 and do it with that.

But I want this to be an inexpensive deal

as i have a 4x2x2 on order atm which will be a fronty tank.

so need to keep cost down and also want to make it very very easy for a sw beginner
as well as very low to maintain as possible

any ideas thoughts ?

for a small tank say 2x1.5x1.5 would i go small canister or sump ?
at least with sump i can heater and skimmer in that to keep all hidden.

any help would be great

thanks

Hmmm inexpensive and marine in the same sentence.....

Fish Only or coral too?

The low-light setup like the one on Vebas counter (decked full of corallimorphs) would be a good starter tank.

Some live rock and water flow is all you need for filtration. Yes to having a sump if you want to keep things hidden.

I saw some nice all-in-one tanks at AAA (other than Red Sea Max) but don't think they come in a size that small, 2' cube is the smallest I think.

Ps - saw your car at Seaview today. Were you hanging out by the fronty display tank with your partner?

TBH unless you are not willing to go 100% full on with the marine tank, it's probably not worth doing.

The smaller the marine aquarium the harder it is to keep stable. Also forget about canisters in marine they are more trouble than their worth. People have used the fluval edge before but the lights are the biggest set back.

Do it!!!!

I had a 3x10x12 with an inbuilt trickle filter and a small airlift skimmer, lighting was a quad t5 unit, and 2x 1000lt powerheads.

It was siiiiiiiiiick and looked great! Go for it man! I got lots of soft coral from vebas and they also helped me out heaps when I was first starting out with marine smile.gif

Look in the masa tank journals you will find a couple of people have done it and can get ideas from them. Your biggest problem will be the lights and water movement cause there really isnt that much real estate in the tank. Also skimming will most probably be out of the question.

well thinking about it more now

I think i might order a 2x1x1.5 and get a sump and it it bit better
skimmer, heaters etc can all live in the sump hidden away.

would this be a decent size to have a small marine tank that's manageable with out being to small or over the top ?

I have been tempted to get one myself for a while there a great looking unit.

What ever way you go I'm sure it will be a cracker if your other tank is anything to go by.
Good luck with it mate.

Thanks

I am a little fussy when it comes to my displays I like to have the nice flash gloss cabinets and make them show peices
only thing i dont like about that tank is all the plastic on the top
and I would still need to get something to stand it on.

I am waiting on a quote tomorrow to come back for a 2x1x1.5 on gloss cabinet and hood,
then ill plumb it up with a sump etc
