Even if they do, do you think that is wise?

Virgin guppies cost about $10 each COST PRICE, can you imagine the retail price! there is no demand for them so i dont think you will be seeing them for a while unless you start that demand for them, aye

zoggy,

I think that common guppies and endlers are exaul variants i.e. no dominant genetics. so if you were to breed back to endlers, eventually you should breed out the common genes.

but you are right and I would only do that, if it was a case of, no female endlers available anywhere.

steve,

are you saying that you had females and that they are available?
or was it that they are just normal common females crossing with endlers?

krissytool,

virgin guppies $10 each laugh.gif
I take it your havin a jodi girraffe.
isn`t it just a case of, they breed like rabbits, as the bubba`s are growing you seperate them out into male female tanks.
I`m sure thats what 99% of good guppy breeders do to ensure a positive colour variant.
isn`t it? :?

i know it sounds ridiculous but a lot of guppy breeders dont do that because guppys can breed very early in life and unfortunately most dont take the time to ensure "1st class" fish

hence the fact I said GOOD guppy breeders.

obviously there is a lot of breeders of many fish (livebearers being more prevelent as they are easy) but GOOD breeders are not run of the mill.

good breeders of any fish will seperate and selectively breed to improve the quality, and cull any undesirable offspring.

most available fish will have someone in perth trying to breed good quality.
and as livebearers are easy and popular, there is more than likely several good breeders in perth.

just a matter of finding them.

for example since I posted that first message I have already had two breeders offer me virginal guppy females and at alot less than $10
actually they are about 100% less biggrin.gif

I did see a guppy for $10 once but that was because it layed golden eggs laugh.gif

I know what you mean though as most breeders just chuck em in a pond over summer and let em go, which is ok when you already have good quality fish that breed true but it takes some time to get them to that stage.

Hey bushie, im not trying to say whos right or whos wrong or play the argument game but on the bay list of fish they were around $10 each for virgin guppies. and im not ruling out that you can get them for half the price cause im sure you can but i was quoted $10. funnily enough at aquotix we were discussing virgin guppies the other day and why they were so expensive. so im not trying to ARGUE you about them, just letting you know what i know. thanks

oh i totally aggree, i cant count the number of times on my hands customers have come to me and said

" my guppies wont stop breeding, how do i stop them? i've tried everything".

so i reply " have you taken out the females?"

they say "no"

so i say "well they wont breed without them, common sense isnt it"

Have a good one, hope you find them guppies biggrin.gif
