18 months or so ago we bought a tank from LFS *( edited) 5x18x1mtr deep, last night the glass split and filled my lounge with water the glass was 10ml thick.I thought the hose on my dishwasher had split (how wrong i was) the tank is one of those chinese imports so i'm wondering if the glass is inferior?.I lost my moorii breeding colony and all my baby auloncaura, just be careful when purchasing tanks and find out where they come from before you purchase one.

May we remind all members about the T&C regarding "Negative Posts".

See below.

3. Please refrain from naming businesses or products for negative feedback. If you have a problem, try and work it out with the shop in question. If that doesn’t work you can contact the RSPCA for animal cruelty concerns or the Department of Fair Trading for problems with equipment etc.

Thank you.

i dont think your glass was inferior just totally not strong enough, 15mm is the australian standard for 3 ft high and yours was 1metre where im sure 19mm would have been more appropriate, 10mm should be used in tanks no higher than 60cm. alot of tanks (probably more than you realise) are made from either imported glass or are imported as a whole tank, its the construction and the preasure that difines the quality and workmanship.
sucks that you had to find out that way, but all the best mate

Chinese glass is to the same quality as what we get here. They just produce and sell for a lower cost. All that glass pool fencing you see in peppy grove etc... you think thats australian made? all chinese made. I think you'll find that half the glass that LFS use for making their tanks is bought from a wholesaler of which buys direct from china.

I've heard in the past of odd shaped tanks such as the bow front tanks splitting due to the amount of pressure placed on at particular spot. These tanks will never be assured to last when in sizs of 4-6 foot quite simply because of the mass of water and the inability to provide extra support to that bow front glass. I had a bow front tank and i was lucky enough not to have any issues, but with that said. My tank wasn't 2 foot wide or anything silly like that. I hope all goes well with the tank, but also hope that you understand that this was an unpredicted accident and there was nothing any LFS could of done to stop it. these things happen to the strongest of tanks.

i know the type of tank you are on about and i think i know the lfs. they stopped selling them after they found out about the splitting and keep one on the floor holdint water to show owneres how they have midified it with extra support. well the fault im thinking of is in the join its self as there are onle 2 panels make up the 4 sides. if yours is the glass itself.. ignore my post
