Hey all,

As if having 60 electric yellow juvies and 40 longfin bristlenose fry wasn't enough, in my 600 litre tank I have been doing a bit of cleaning and low and behold I can now see my red forest jewel with 60 tiny tiny fry!

Problem is she has located them in the corner right next to my huge canister filter inlet.

They are about 1mm big, when I try to give them some crushed flakes mum eats it or it ends up in the intake.

I cant place the fry in a net into my 160 litre tank with the elec yellow fry as they are literally 1mm big. Plus I couldn't put the mother red forest jewel in the 160 litre tank as im quite certain she will eat the elec yellow.

So what to do? Do you guys think its ok to leave them where they are over the next couple of weeks until I can catch them?

Dan

Cheers mate! Turns out it wasn't the inlet filter I had to be worried about. Did a bit if research on the net and it says the mum will stick with the fry for about 3 - 4 weeks.
What it didn't tell me if that us without the father chomping up about 59 of em whilst she isn't looking! Found 10 left so scooped em up and put them in my tank with the electric yellow fry. Can hardly see them but hoping in a month or so some have survived in there

yep, such a shame. Im hoping they will have another crack in the near future but its much harder as the fry are sooooo small.

Might have to get my old 20 litre running on standby in a month so if it happens I will just net them straight in there!

Just make sure you can give them food small enough to fit in their mouth.
Maybe freshly hatched BBS?

Thanks Jase,

I cant see them any more so I have a feeling they all got eaten, but oddly enough the female has already gone back to the corner filter area again and she is hanging out around it..... she is a slut fish for sure!

I am heading to Robs aquarium in a couple of weeks so hoping they have some BBS there!
