Check your water for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate again, if you had nitrate problems then the problem might still exist. Lowering the nitrate by water changes helps, but it is only a temporary measure until you find out what is the source of the problem (eg cut down on feeding)
Also check the pH, they prefer lower pH, BUT they can surive in high pH conditions. (higher pH would mean ammonia and nitrate is a lot more toxic than a lower pH)
How big is your tank anyway? Is it planted?

Its not the biggest tank i think its just over 2 ft and it has a few plants but i wouldnt call it planted, recently 2 barbs did vannish i dunno if they started to hang out with the Widows hiding in the little caves and stuff :\
